Miami-Dade Police Dept.

For the Miami-Dade Police Department Headquarters project, the scope of work included the construction of a new structural concrete and masonry enclosure within the existing parking garage to accommodate a 400 kW emergency standby generator system. The generator installation was designed with a dual-fuel configuration utilizing both diesel and natural gas to ensure enhanced operational reliability and redundancy for critical facility power requirements.

The project included installation of a three-phase automatic transfer switch (ATS) and all associated electrical appurtenances required to support seamless transition between normal and emergency power systems. The generator system was fully integrated into the facility’s existing Siemens Building Management System (BMS), including coordination of controls, monitoring points, and system interfacing to ensure real-time operational oversight and system reliability. Integration also included tie-in to the existing fire alarm system to support required monitoring and life-safety functions.

Additional scope of work included upgrades and modifications to existing building systems, including fire protection, plumbing, mechanical, and electrical infrastructure to support the new emergency power installation and associated load requirements. Architectural improvements were also performed, including installation of doors, frames, and interior finishes necessary to complete the generator enclosure and support operational access and safety compliance.

The completed work resulted in a fully integrated emergency power system housed within a structurally reinforced facility enclosure, providing enhanced resilience, system redundancy, and code-compliant emergency power capability for the Miami-Dade Police Department Headquarters.
